Snowmobiling the Big Horns Day 3

On the last day we got to a spot where there was a cut across Grant knew about so we took that while Gary and Parkis continued on down the trail.

Pretty snow

We met up again back on the trail and made our way up this giant hill - those two specs at the bottom are Gary and Parkis!

Parkis even ventured up

Gary decided to head back at one point because he was getting tired. So, the other three of us continued on and found these nice meadows to play in

Grant looked for a way to keep going through the trees but, um, got a little stuck ;)

Later on we took another logging road that no one had been on - it was nice! Parkis got stuck one more time but I was able to help him out ;)

It was a good trip with lots of good snow!

Snowmobiling the Big Horns Day 2

Day number 2, we found a little more snow which equaled stuck for me...

... and stuck for Gary!

hmmm ... and stuck for Grant!

And then we saw this nice logging road that no one had been on. So, we went on it - and Gary and Parkis came along because we said it was a 'road/trail' ;) heh... but not exactly the road they were imagining (road/trail to them = groomed trail). There was a little meadow down off the logging road so Grant and I turned off to check it out ... we later realized we should have told the other two to stay on the logging road because they got stuck as soon as they turned off ;) And then Grant and I got really stuck many times in the little meadow (that's Grant in the meadow below) so it took us a long time to get back to the other two ... and they were still digging themselves out from their first stuck ... so, it was good they didn't make it to get stuck in the meadow ... lol ...

And this was the way out of the meadow ... which Grant made on his first try but I didn't quite ;)  Eventually we all got out and back on our way!

How fun is that?!

Gary's last stuck of the day!

Snowmobiling the Big Horns Day 1

Grant, Grant's dad Gary, a friend of their family Parkis, and I all loaded up to ride in the Big Horns for a few days!

It was snowing when we arrived and it snowed quite a bit while we were there which made for some good riding!

We stayed in one of the suites in the lodge.

The first day of riding - that's Grant playing around on a hill

Parkis' first day riding in the mountains - he learned about side-hilling pretty quick!

Sliding with Ella!

We decided to take advantage of the snow and sunshine so took Ella sliding on a hill near Sartell! She was a little hesitant and quiet at first but once we went down the first time she didn't want to quit!

Let's go again!

Come on, Grant, faster!

We stopped at a coffee shop on the way home for a little treat and some hot chocolate

Playing in the backyard at the Stanleys - that's Leidy doing the 'snow face' as Ella called it

Fun in the snow!

Winter Camping in the Chippewa National Forest, MN

Grant and I took Friday off work and made our way to near Grand Rapids (Suomi Hills area) to winter camp for the weekend with Leidy! Here we are loading up the pulks getting ready to go.

That's me - I was pulling a Snowclipper

What a gorgeous day!

Leidy and Me

We went about 3 miles in to find a campsite

Leidy had lots of fun in the snow - it was a little work for her but she kept leading the way!

Our tracks as the sun started to set

Supper time! Don't be fooled - our fingers were frozen at this point after setting up camp and finding firewood ;)

Leidy was EXHAUSTED! She kept almost falling over while we were sitting around the woodstove ;)

Just hanging out

The next day we went for a little ski outing across the lake to a historic building site

Looking back across the lake to our campsite

We hung out and had lunch in one of the buildings. Leidy was having some trouble with snowballs in her paws - need to get her some booties!

When we got back to camp we played around in the woods and hills by our site - heh heh - it was pretty funny skiing down the hills in our xcountry skis! We're not very good ;) Or at least I'm not!

We turned our phones on that evening to check the weather and there was lots of talk about an impending blizzard on Sunday when we were going to be packing up. So, we went to bed early and, sure enough, woke up to some heavy snow. We packed up and headed out hoping our car wouldn't be stuck in the parking lot ;)  It was still snowing hard when we left camp!

It wasn't snowing as hard when we got close to the parking lot - and our car wasn't stuck!

Leidy worked hard trekking through all that snow and needed a nap on the way home! We were still getting lots of texts about the 'blizzard' and it was looking like we would run into some heavier snow and wind when we got farther south. But, it was looking ok so far.

Hey! We found the BLIZZARD! :)

The snow and wind did increase as we got farther south and, when we were almost home we decided to take the cut across road to our house, which we discovered wasn't plowed ;) I thought we were going to be stuck in our two wheel drive car for sure! But, we made it through that.  BUT THEN we got to our driveway and half way down it got stuck! Ha!

So, we packed up our pulks and unloaded the car ;) lol

What a fun weekend!
