The kitties tried to sabotage my garden!!!!

Ever since we've had the kitties we've put our plants somewhere that they can't reach. That spot kept changing as they grew up and could reach more things. First, we had the plants on top of the TV but when they could reach that we put them on top of the cupboards. While we were gone snowmobiling they discovered how to jump that high so when we got home we put them on top of the refrigerator (across from the cupboards). Well, now they can even jump from the cupboards across to the refrigerator. Yeah, they're pretty agile, those little buggers. Nothing is out of their reach ;)

So, now the trick is to put all plants in our bedroom and always keep the door shut. Well, almost always.

Today I left work a little early because Heather and I ran the On the Move 5k at SCSU. I got home, quick changed, gave the kitties some supper and headed out. The run went well. Mom, Dad, Chris, Ella and Grant all came to watch Heather, her friend Maria and Me run. I even won a sweatshirt afterwards from the door prize drawings! I think I ran a 26:40 or something and Heather 27:01. Both pretty good for not running much! Grant and I stopped at Erberts and Gerberts for a sandwich (yum!) afterwards and swung by the Johnson's to say hi. Then we headed home. I walked in and immediately saw the bedroom door was open.

AAHHHHH!!! NOOOOOO!!!!!! The kitties had been in the bedroom and sabotaged ALL my plants!!!! My little garden seed tray thingy was UPSIDE DOWN on the CARPET! AHHHHHH! And they had messed with my spider plants. That was minor compared to my poor garden project :( Those naughty kitties knew they were in big trouble. Usually they are all lovey to me but when I walked into the living room they ran behind the couches. Naughty, naughty kitties. Dude, it was devastating seeing all those poor plants upside down out of their tray :( I wasn't thinking when I started cleaning them up so I managed to keep all the same plants together (I think all the tomatoes ended up in one section, all the peas in another, etc) but forgot to pay attention to where they had been in the tray (I also forgot to take pictures of the devastation). This is a problem because my labels were on the outside of the tray, not on the little containers that the plants were in. So, I know I can tell the peas, beans, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers apart. But, the squash and zucchini (summer squash) look pretty much identical. This is a problem. I think the zucchini was taller so I might have them right but I guess we'll find out if they grow some stuff later! Here are the bent, broken plants I think are zucchini:

And the poor tomatoes were so little and fragile:

See how the peas are all bent?

And these ones look pretty sad and bent and broken too (I think they're the squash):

Not to mention I had just watered the dang things so when they were upside down on the carpet it was like MUD on the carpet. We had some carpet stain remover stuff though that seems to have done the trick. Jeepers. I guess they don't look as terrible in these pictures. Maybe it was just the shock of seeing them ALL UPSIDE DOWN ON THE CARPET that seemed the worse. But they definitely don't seem as perky anymore. Poor little plants. The kitties said they were very sorry they did it though. And they're still cute.

PS. This was also the Kitties' birthday (well it's what we guessed is their birthday based on what the vet said). But, their party has been postponed due to their naughtiness.

Grilling, Games and Bonfires at the Johnsons

Today a bunch of us gathered at the Johnsons to grill some brats, drink a few beers that were given to the guys when they rescued someone's canoe, slackline, play lumberjack games and sing and play guitar around a bonfire ;)

Evan slacklining.

Grant's been practicing slacklining ;) Here's a video:
And then Grant played a trick on Brody.
Evan and Grant playing lumberjack games while Ryan watches.

And then we had a little sing-along around the campfire. First a little Old Crow Medicine Show (my camera couldn't see anyone).
And then Taylor Swift??? it takes a little to get into it ... so listen for a minute ... it's lovely ...
heh heh ... funny times

Putting the dock in at the cabin on Little Birch

Today Darrell, Suzette, Jake, Cody, Grant and I met at Mom and Dad's house in Grey Eagle to get ready to put the dock in at the cabin. First, we headed out to Mike's place to say hi and pick up the four-wheeler and our canoe. Then, we all made our way out to Little Birch to start the project. It was rainy but that didn't stop anyone from getting started! Cody hopped right in the lake to help. Well, mostly walk around and tell stories but close enough ;) He started out with just his feet in the water but by the end of it he was pretty much swimming!

Suzette needed to borrow Darrell's hat to stay dry ;) very nice, Suzie ;)

Jake and Dad getting ready to steer the dock in.
Grant lining it up.
Mom helping Grant put the ramps away while sporting her poncho.

After the dock was in the rain stopped so the kitties came out to play.
They had never been out on the dock before and they really weren't scared at all. Everest even stuck his foot in the water ;) I'm sure they'll be swimming in no time!
Everest was very curious ...

Heather, Chris, Ella and Bear came over for some supper. Here's Mom, Ella, Jake, Heather, Bear, Suzette, Cody (after they went home for dry clothes because at one point Suzette also jumped in the water because apparently she thought they needed help??), Darrell, Dad and Grant.
Jake, Cody and Grant taking the canoe out for a spin as Dad watches.
Later that evening Mom and Dad babysat Ella while Heather, Chris, Grant and I picked Suzette up and went to Gerards in Sauk Centre to listen to a band called Hairball. They play all 80s music and are pretty entertaining to watch :) It was a fun weekend!

Molly and Clark's Wedding Shower! (and a kayak paddle for mother's day)

Molly and Clark had their first wedding shower today! The shower was held in Clotho at Marla and Gary's. We started out with some visiting and a game called 'Who Knows Molly and Clark Best?'

Here's Marla helping Gary with the answers.

Mom, Denny and Chelie working on their answers.

Ben and Jess think they have them all right ;)

Peg, Dave, Chris and Heather.

Michael and Amy.

Marcia and Missy.

Nicole Beach won!

Then, we had some tasty food.

Molly and Clark opened presents.

And we drew for the door prize which went to Marcia Woeste, and then did some more visiting! It was a fun time! Here are more pics:

After the shower was over we had a little surprise for Mom. She had been wanting to take their new kayak out but didn't have a paddle yet. Little did she know we had already planned to get her one for Mother's Day. She asked if Grant knew where she could get one so we were worried she might buy herself one. So, instead of waiting until Mother's Day we gave it to her early.

Classic Mom face :)

Grant says "you hold it like this and make sure you wear your life jacket, Vickie!

Flowers, Kitties and Gardens

It's April 14th and here's what's happenin' around our house...

My pretty birthday flowers are blooming!

The kitties are playing outside ...

Everest is climbing trees ...

And the peas are getting gigantic so I planted them in a bigger pot!

I got black dirt from the Lazy Sue Ranch (AKA the Hinnenkamps) and mixed it with some potting soil.

I used my fancy little birthday gardening shovel to make spots for each of the plants.

Then I put each of the plants in their spot and covered them with dirt and pressed it down around them.

And here they are in the pot (later we put sticks on the side of the pot so they have something to crawl up).

It was a nice spring day!

Yesterday was my 26th birthday! But, I had to work late so we didn't get to do anything fun. Grant said just the two of us were going to grill after work today so I was excited about that. Around noon Grant emailed me and said he was going to a meeting that would last around 3 hours. I thought that was a little weird that he had such a long meeting but I didn't think much about it. Since I worked late on my birthday yesterday I was told I could leave early today. So, around 3:30 I texted Grant and said I was leaving work. He replied back to me right away and said 'see ya soon' which was weird because when he's at work he doesn't usually answer his phone or texts. But, whatever, I again didn't think much of it - just figured he was out of his 3 hour meeting :)

So, I drove home and when I turned the corner to our townhome Grant's car was in the driveway!! And there were tables and chairs set up in the garage :) haha! There was going to be a party! I went in and the whole house was clean and Grant was cutting up some potatoes. hehe I asked him if there was a party and he was like I don't know. I figured there was and I was excited! Eventually Heather and Ella came over (look at her special shirt for the party :)

Me and my little neice :)
Sandy and Kory and Brody, Angie, and Summit (their dog), and Mom and Dad Schnell and Mom Vickie, and the Hinnenkamps - Darrell, Suzette, Jake and Cody all came and later Chris and Dad Marv came! It was a fun party :) Here's Angie, Heather, Me, and Suzette checking out the garden:
And now time for some cake:
Thanks, Grant and everyone who helped!!! I had no idea you were planning some festivities!

Ha! Check it out! The squash was not visible yesterday but today you can see it coming up! See the little hint of green in the top corner spots and the middle? Cool!

Seed Progress

Here's a little update since we planted the seeds on Sunday, March 28th!
On Tuesday, April 6, a little over a week after we planted the seeds, this is what we had! The zucchini and peas are up:

and the cucumbers and beans are up too:

and even some little tomato plants (look closely - they're there)!
But the peppers and squash are a little slower to come up apparently:

Our little garden is growing!
