Wow it’s been awhile since I’ve posted. The summer is flying by! This might be a long post again so bear with me :) Our latest adventure has been our two new kitties, Junebug and Everest. We’ve always talked about having a pet. We can’t have a dog in the townhome we currently live in so we decided on some kitties! My aunt Suzette and uncle Darrell had 13 kitties at their farm this spring and said we could have some.

On June 7th, 2009, our first wedding anniversary, we decided to head to the farm and pick out the kitties. We picked up Heather, Chris and their dog Bear and headed to Melrose. Here we are going up to the hay loft.

At first we didn’t know if we should get one kitty or two. I had been to the farm and checked out the kitties earlier so already had one in mind.

When we got there and found the one I had picked out, we also found one more that was so cute and cuddly we just couldn’t pass her up!

So, we ended up with two. We’re glad we did because they have so much fun playing and wrestling together.

At first we thought we had picked two girl kitties. After debating about some names like Janis (Joplin) or LaVerne and Shirley we decided on Junebug and Mitsi. After a couple days we realized Mitsi is actually a boy and Grant didn’t think that was a very boyish name. So, we renamed him Everest like the mountain since he ‘couldn’t be tamed’ as Grant said. At first he didn’t like to be held so Grant thought that’d be a good name. Now he’s pretty loveable and likes to cuddle! Everest still suits him though! Here's Heather, Me, Everest, Junebug and Grant ready to head to their new home.

The kitties did fine on the ride home from the farm. For some reason I didn’t think we needed a carrier so they just sat on my lap the whole way. Once we got home we showed them their litter box and they caught on right away.

They were pretty scared and snuck cautiously around the kitchen where we had them penned.

Every day they seemed a little more comfortable and we introduced them to new areas of our townhome. They’re doing great now and love to run around, wrestle, snuggle and play with the new toys from Heather and Chris! Here are some stories and pictures from the weeks we’ve had them so far:

Tuesday, June 9th: That little stinker Junebug escaped over the gate we had set up to block them in. Luckily she did it when we were home so we could devise a new plan for the next day while we were at work! We are keeping them in the kitchen area when we aren’t home until they are declawed so they don't wreck our new furniture.

We didn’t see Junebug making her way to the top of the gate but we turned around at one point and there she was perched at the top figuring out how she was going to jump down on the other side. We were like “AHHH JUNEBUG GET DOWN” and then she looked freaked and started to back her way down the way she came up. When she got halfway down she just jumped. What a nerd. Guess they got the climbing figured out. Who knew this pet thing was so tricky! It’s like an experiment everyday to see what will keep them in :)

Even before the cage incident we had another little mishap today. We were playing with them in the kitchen and all of a sudden Junebug disappeared. We could not figure out where she went because we clogged the hole in the cupboards they climbed in the other day. Grant thought he saw her by the fridge but I was like no way she can’t fit under there ... ha ... yeah right! She went under the fridge and was dinging around in the back and would not come out! Finally we had to pull the fridge out from the wall to rescue her. Brody and Angie were there and Brody was like “you better turn the fridge off cuz if there’s a fan back there she might be toast.” Ahhhh! I thought she was a dead kitty for sure. Maybe she’s the one that needs a different name - something like Trouble.
